This past week, it was reported that Cody Roberts from Daniel, Wyoming ran down a yearling wolf with his snow machine and disabled it. He then captured the wolf, taped its mouth shut with red tape, took it to the Green River Bar in Daniel, Wyoming and posed for pictures with it.
If you look at the wolf, it has a dejected, defeated look to it while the sadistic human being is smiling into the camera. Of the two, the young wolf is far more noble and admirable in these moments before it was killed.
Cody would then take the wolf behind the building where he shot and killed it.
Quoting from the article: Photo Shows Wyoming Man With Tormented Wolf Before It Was Killed
Rob Wallace, who oversaw the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service as the Assistant Secretary for the Interior under the Trump administration, said he was “sickened” by the photo, which Cowboy State Daily shared with him Saturday morning.
“This is awful,” Wallace said from his Teton County home. “Wyoming represents the best in wildlife stewardship and this is a sad and disgusting outlier.”
“In no way do I believe this represents who we are as a state,” he added.
End Quotes
Bullshit Rob, this absolutely represents Wyoming (as well as many other states) at its worst.
Let’s review: in 85% of Wyoming, it is legal to run down and exhaust wolves and coyotes with snow machines and/or to actually hit and run them over.
Wyoming allows almost all forms of killing wolves with the use of night vision goggles to baits and animal calls. While there may be laws against cruelty against domestic animals, these laws do not apply to wild animals.
How is it, that while we outlawed dog fighting by 1976 in all 50 states because it was cruel, we still allow trapping/snaring and all forms of torture, maiming and killing of wild animals? This is true whether it is in Wyoming or where I am writing this from Alaska.
Cruelty and terror towards wildlife is the point as is showing off a living, breathing wolf with its mouth taped shut for a publicity photo and then shooting it.
This stunt was meant to generate outrage and get under the skin of those who believe it was an immoral, unethical act and are outraged.
Yet, these immoral and unethical acts against primarily predators have only grown over the years. This is evidenced by hunting contests, higher bag limits, longer seasons, using snow machines to run down wildlife, liberalized hunting/trapping methods, Fish & Game Departments carrying out predator kill programs such as the Mulchatna Massacre in Alaska where 94 grizzly (brown) bears including females with cubs were killed by shooting them from a helicopter, with an additional five black bears and five wolves. Alaska Fish & Game will be restarting this program again this May.
This is just the tip of the predator kill iceberg, especially when you include Wildlife Services into the mix that kills predators to subsidize and benefit the agricultural industry. Talk about Corporate Socialism???
Cody’s actions can shine a much broader spot light on the legalized cruelty that has been directed at predators in Wyoming as well as in other states. The way in which you create fear in such people is by taking away the sadistic hunting/trapping practices that they revel in.
Remember, cruelty towards wildlife is the point.
Personally, I support the complete eradication of recreational trapping as these are nothing more than biological landmines used to torture, maim and kill both targeted and non targeted wildlife and……pet dogs.
Many would be stunned at the actual trapping Free For All that takes place in Alaska. See my video: Denali Wolves: Why Trapping Should be Banned in Alaska at:
Work to outlaw all hunting contests whether they occur in Wyoming or in other states. Work to lower bag limits and reduce length of seasons. Limit what hunters can legally use (technology, night vision goggles, baits, ATV’s, 4 WD and other vehicles, boats, predator calls, etc) to track, attract and kill wildlife.
Promote ethical (fair chase - only) hunting standards, expose all abuses such as Cody’s.
Demand that Board of Game’s represent all interested parties: wildlife watchers, environmentalists, scientists, professional photographers/writers, hunters, etc.
Demand from the US Interior Secretary that if State Fish & Game departments refuse to do the above that Pittman/Robertson funds will be withheld until they do. These funds should be conditional on maintaining healthy and sustainable numbers of predators without persecution, while meeting the above conditions and creating fair representation on State Board of Games.
Attend Board of Game meetings and testify in ether written and/or oral testimony in favor of protective measures for wildlife.
Support environmental groups either financially or through volunteer work, letters to the editor, opinion pieces, website, social media, friends, family, community, etc. Contribute what you are comfortable with and are most passionate about.
Typically, environmental groups are underfunded when compared to Safari Club, the NRA and other extremist, pro hunting/trapping groups.
These are just some suggestions.
Many may be tempted to call Cody to threaten him, call him names, etc. While I understand the anger it will do nothing to change this man’s perverted character or future actions. I suggest that you take that anger and use if for constructive purposes to change Wyoming’s cruelty laws (as well as other states) to apply to all wild and domestic animals with far stiffer penalties for any law breaker.
The reality is: the sadistic opposition doesn’t care about living wildlife, about your desires, wants, feelings or what is moral or ethical. The only value that they hold for wildlife is killing it and putting a rug on the floor or a “Dead Head” on the wall and being able to brag about it.
So, if you want to put fear into the Cody’s of the world, work to change these laws that allow Cody to torture, capture, pose with and kill a juvenile wolf. And if you can’t change these laws in the near future, work to expose them and change them in the distant future.
We are not going to change the “Sick Fucks” in this world but we can collectively change the environment that they work and live in.
All the best.
